Growing up...too fast.

Nile saw the very cute dance recital pics of our friends' daughter on Facebook.  He asked to see them. I scrolled through and he studied them for a while. Then he asked me to "write something to her". I said, OK what? And he said "tell her that I go poop in the toilet and wipe my own butt EVERYDAY!" So, gritting my teeth, I asked why would you want her to know something like that? And he said, VERY seriously, "cause I want her to know I'm a big boy now!!!" He tried to type the message after I told him it wasn't a good idea, but gave up cause "there are just too many letters. I can't do it all by myself." Thank God.  Almost too embarrassing to share.

he loves a parade

We were watching the Morningside Days Parade.  Nile befriended perfect strangers within minutes.
Anyone is more interesting and fun to hang out with than mom.  About half way through the parade the East High Band marched by.  They were loud enough that Nile inched his way back to me.  But, at the end of the line was about 50 scantily dressed, well made-up cheerleaders.  His fears subsided and he subconsciously drifted back out to the curb.
So I asked him what his favorite part of the parade was.  "Owl of the pretty girls."  Of course.

Joining the pros

We were driving home from Joann's (the daycare provider) house and I was telling Nile that tonight was his first T-ball game.  He said, "I know mom, this is for real." And I said, yes it is. I think it's gonna be fun.  And he replied, "No, mom. I'm gonna be IN the game.  This is REAL.  It's not pretend anymore.  I'm IN the game."  He's big time now...no more backyard nonsense.

what is normal?

A sweet college girl watched Nile and Adeline today because JoJo took the day off.  It sounds like it went O.K... everyone was in one piece by the end of the day.  But for some reason, Nile kept telling the sitter, "This is what normal people do."  All. Day. Long.  What does that mean?  And what was he doing?

like mother like son

Nile says we need to get out of Sioux City cause there is no Quik Trip. We need to "move somewhere where there's a store with a Q and a T" so he can get "a donut and a blue drink". I officially love my son.

the gift of giving

I bought a card for a wonderful friend that was turning 30.  Nile absolutely adores her, so when he found out I was going out for dinner with her for her birthday he had a lot of questions.  Of course, he wanted to go along.  But when I told him we were going to a boring fancy restaurant he decided to stay home.  However, he was appauled when he found out that I didn't get her a present.  Just a card! So he talked me into going to Walmart to pick out a present that would be PERFECT for her.  During the ride there I asked what he had in mind.  He said, "I know she likes doctors (she works for Hospice - where Nile says he will work some day), so lets get her a doctor present."  I had no idea what he had in mind.  Long story short, we left Walmart with an electric Spiderman toothbrush and Cars band-aids.  And a StarWars (singing) card.  But he made sure that there were a few of each item left in stock so that he could get them for his birthday.  Thank God she is so wonderful.  I think she loved them as much as he loved picking them out!
