time flies

Nile woke up from a long nap this evening. It was dark and he was confused.  He wanted to know when I was making breakfast and who was bringing him to JoJo's (the sitter).  It took about an hour to explain to him that it was still Monday.
When he finally understood he said, "Monday doesn't stay Monday very long.  Days go really fast.  I wish I had more daytime. Except for in church.  Then time goes really slow."

donation smonation

We went out for lunch today. It was a pretty big deal.  The restaurant had a video game that Nile really wanted to play, but, of course mom and dad forgot to bring their money.  Then Nile remembered he might have a dollar in his pocket.  So he reached as deep as he could and then said, very disappointed, "Oh, yeah. I put my dollar in the basket at church.  I'm not gonna do that next time."

lookin' out for dad

"Daddy, I'd love to give you a hug.  But you would just squeeze my boogers out of my nose, and I know you don't want them on your shirt."

strength and conditioning

"I like to carry Adeline's diaper bag.  Do you know why? It makes my arms hurt.  And do you know what happens when my arms hurt? They get stronger."

so very patriotic

I was so proud to hear Nile sing part of "America" and say some of the Pledge of Allegiance. But the pride became confusion when he became very excited and said he can't wait til next week "cause we're gonna learn the 'holding of the swords'!" Now I have taken a lot of cold medicine...but I just can't figure that one out. Is he making this up? Help please...

peaceful Sunday mornings

"Nile, you are making it very hard for me to put my mind in a state of grace before church." - Aaron
It is pretty ironic that getting ready for church on Sunday mornings is so stressful.

welcome to the real world, kid.

Nile discovered one of the great mysteries and annoyances of life tonight...when you find the toilet paper roll is empty - and it's too late. Needless to say, Aaron and I got a good talking to. ‎"Use a tissue instead? What you MEAN, use a tissue? That's not right!" We were forced to promise it will never happen again.

"look mom! it's an 'isoslees' triangle!"

I took a second look, and he was right.  Aaron had made pathways in the snow for us and the dog.  I have to admit I googled different types of triangles to make sure I remembered their names correctly.

the story of his life

Nile was watching a slideshow of Adeline's craniosynostosis story today.  He asked me what it was and I told him.  He replied, "I want you to make a picture story for me.  But mine will have light sabers and thomas and footballs and stuff.  It will be pretty short."

abracadabra

Out of all of the new toys Nile had to choose from for his first "show and tell" at preschool after Christmas, he chose his magic wand.  He said he wanted to make Elle (a super-cute classmate of his, that he really likes) disappear.  When we got home that afternoon and took the wand from his backpack I asked him how it went. He held the wand in both hands and looked at it, pretty discouraged, saying "I waved my magic wand and said magic words, but she was still there.  It just doesn't work...Yet!"
